Batman "The Dark Knight" - $158.4M
Below Review By: Luke Hall
In a time where just about every main stream comic book
hero has, or is making their way to the silver screen, it may be
difficult to decide which super hero films are really worth your
hard earned cash, and which ones you can let slide. Some comic book
movies may look a little too fantastical or just not your cup of
tea. If you’re looking for a more mature, deeper, and darker comic
reiteration, look no further. The Dark Knight was not only the best
movie I’ve seen in quite some time but completely changed my view on
what a comic book movie should be.
In
2005, Batman Begins showed us the start of the caped crusader and
his plight to stop the terrible crime that ran rampant in Gotham
City. Several years later, Gotham is still in tough shape as a new
threat has emerged as a separate entity from the already prominent
mob. A man known only as The Joker (Heath Ledger) is a twisted and
deeply psychotic villain who is much trickier to stop than Batman
originally thought. With the help of Lieutenant James Gordon (Gary
Oldman) and new district attorney, Harvey Dent, (played by Aaron
Eckhart) Batman attempts to take the clown-faced freak down.
Familiar Faces like Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and
Michael Cane as Bruce’s right hand man and butler, Alfred, return
this time as well. All the actors and actresses make an incredibly
appealing and unparalleled performance. Most notably, the late Heath
Ledger. Never has anyone truly captured the perfect arch-villain as
well as Ledger did. His performance alone is reason enough to go out
and see The Dark Knight.
Other points to note were that the movie is incredibly cinematic and
rather intense for a PG-13 film. The length was also great: it
didn’t end abruptly which is my main nitpick with films. A movie
that ends abruptly or does a lousy job of giving a conclusion are
what my nightmares are made of. The Dark Knight did resolve many key
points but still did leave this comic book tale open for more.
Overall the story was really great and the characters show such
amazing chemistry with one another. All the special effects were top
notch; who doesn’t love watching a gigantic building explode? (If
you’re keen to Dark Knight news, you’ve probably heard that for the
film, a hospital in Chicago was detonated, frightening locals and
making them think it was some sort of attack.)
And now, upon reading this review, I’d like for you to go to the
nearest theatre and watch The Dark Knight. You cannot afford to miss
this movie. It really is a phenomenal piece of cinematic art that
shouldn’t be missed. Trust the Joker when he says it’ll, “put a
smile on that face.”
